All of them are digging full time to build Buena Vista University Athletics.
• First up, Big Ten Champion: Shane Maier, from Storm Lake, who won the 2007 Big Ten title in the shot put, has been appointed Director of Athletic Performance at BVU, a role that will see Maier in working with each individual of BVU’s growing body of student-athletes.
• Next, two-time silver medalist: Kerron Stewart, who is currently an assistant athletics and cross-country coach at BVU, adds to her title. Stewart also becomes deputy director of athletic performance. Stewart, from Jamaica, won a silver and a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. She won a second silver medal as a member of the Jamaican 4X100-meter relay team at the 2012 Olympics.
• Third, National Championship Coach: Trevor Johnson, BVU Men’s Basketball Coach. Johnson, who started guiding the Beavers two seasons ago, will add the assistant director of athletic performance to his title. He was an assistant coach who helped lead the Nebraska-Wesleyan men’s basketball team to an NCAA Division III title in 2018.
