MARSEILLE, FRANCE (October 22, 2021) – Three American athletes are on the ground in Marseille, France, the sailing site of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, for the 2021 iQFoil European Championships. The race begins on Saturday 23 October and continues until Thursday 28 October.

Competing for the United States:
      • Alexander Temko (Clearwater, Fla.), Competing in the Under-21 division
      • Fiona Wylde (Hood River, Oregon), competing in the Open division
      • Xavier Ferlet (Santa Clarita, California), competing in the Open division

This talented group of sailors are coached by former US Sailing Team windsurf athlete and recipient of the 2020 US Sailing Development Coach of the Year award, Phil Muller. “The mistral [cold and dry strong wind in southern France] was in full force today and was pumping a 4 ‘swell with choppy water at the top, ”said Muller after the team’s training day. “We have six days of racing planned and the United States is here at the 2024 Olympic site to learn and compete with the best of this new Olympic class. “

Temko, Wylde and Ferlet bring a varied experience to Marseille. Alex Temko is set to make the United States squad at the inaugural Junior Pan Am Games in Cali, Colombia, Nov. 26-Dec. 5, after winning domestic qualifiers for the San Francisco edition of the West Marine US Open. Sailing Series. Three-time Stand Up Paddleboarding World Champion Fiona Wylde has dedicated her efforts to foiling windsurfing and brings a unique set of skills from her successes in other board sports. Xavier Ferlet has recorded an impressive number of scores at four of the six West Marine US Open Sailing Series events in Florida and California and has extensive experience sailing overseas.
