Alex Ovechkin He may be in the twilight of his career, but that doesn’t mean he’s relying on what he’s already accomplished. Months after signing a five-year extension with the Capitals, Ovechkin was spotted training at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, Virginia. The school is located less than a mile north of MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

After finishing his shoot Tuesday night, Ovechkin took the time to pose for a photo with the Washington-Liberty football team. He was wearing a Nike shirt that said RUN SUCKS.

Ovechkin enters the 2021-22 NHL season 164 goals behind Wayne Gretzky for the all-time goal scoring record. Ovechkin must average 33 goals per season over the next five years to overtake The Great One.

“You never know. I’ll do my best,” Ovechkin said after signing again. “That’s why I want to play five more years. If I have a chance of catching The Great One, why If I want to be second, that is also a very good number.

This isn’t the first time Ovechkin has been spotted at the WLHS filing late documents on the football field. In September 2017, Ovechkin was photographed by a fan doing medicine ball exercises with his personal trainer Pavel Burlachenko and Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Later that year, the Capitals won their first Stanley Cup. So hey, maybe that’s a good omen.
